Folgers updates the “Peter Comes Home” commercial for the 2009 holiday season. This year Peter is back from the field. “It’s a long way from West Africa,” Peter says to his sister as he smells the aroma of a freshly brewed cup of Folgers coffee. Cut to a sleeping mom who sniffs the Folgers air and wakes up to realize “he’s here.” Meanwhile Peter gives his sister a small, exotically wrapped gift from the far away land of West Africa.
The only thing sillier than this commercial is my habit of taking Folgers coffee with me to Africa. Don’t judge. It’s hard to find good coffee in the land of coffee exports (let’s agree to disagree about the quality of Folgers coffee).
I wonder if Nescafe runs a similar holiday commercial in Uganda? Instant coffee probably lacks the warm aroma image.
